The last month our project partner ISIG – Institute of International Sociology of Gorizia took part at the Smart Life Festival 2024, an event in Modena (Italy) which gathered experts and citizens to explore key topics related to digital innovation in contemporary society. ISIG actively participated by organizing a dedicated session with transportation and logistics stakeholders from the Emilia-Romagna Region, a critical hub for industry and logistics in Italy.

During the session, SETO engaged with experts from the Municipality of Modena Comune di Modena and ITL (Institute for Transport and Logistics Foundation) to discuss the soft enforcement of innovative solutions in the transport sector. Together, we delved into:

  • Social behavior and technology – Understanding how the perception and acceptance of new transport operations technologies impact their success.
  • Incentive and reward mechanisms – Exploring how to encourage the adoption of SETO technologies through innovative soft enforcement strategies.
  • Barriers to synchromodality and smart road developments – Addressing the regulatory and cultural challenges that hinder technological shifts in the logistics and transport sector.
  • The role of aggregated data collection – Key to help local (and trans-local) institutions understand the current situation and inform policy design

The discussion provided valuable insights for several upcoming SETO deliverables, including the D4.2 Guidelines on societal acceptance and awareness raising. It also served as a pilot for further T4.2 activities, setting the foundation for future collaboration and knowledge sharing, especially in the French and Belgium Living Labs where SETO technologies will be tested.

As next steps of this activity, ISIG will organise a second round of discussions with logistics companies and workers’ union representatives.

We look forward to continuing this journey, contributing to the development of smarter, more sustainable and shared transport solutions!
